Dr. Scott Werner’s interest in orthodontics and the dental health field stems from his father, Dr. Stanley Werner. At a very young age, he began watching his father and was influenced greatly by the creativity and mechanical dexterity he needed to achieve results expected by his patients.

 

Dr. Scott graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery. Additionally, he received a Master of Science in orthodontics from the University of Detroit Mercy. Dr. Scott is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Less than 50% of orthodontists achieve Diplomate status with the American Board of Orthodontics.

In dental school, Dr. Scott was awarded the Richard Doggett Dean & Marguerite Taylor Dean Honorary Odontological Society Scholarship Award and was a member of the IMHOTEP Leadership Society and Psi Omega dental fraternity. He was president of Psi Omega dental fraternity and Vice President of his dental class. Furthermore, he presented lectures at the American Association of Dental Research in San Francisco and the International Association of Dental Research in Montreal.

Dr. Scott has published papers in the Cleft Palate Journal and the Journal of Dental Research. After graduating from his orthodontic residency in 1992, he published articles in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics and The Angle of Orthodontist. He taught orthodontics at the University of Tennessee Dental School for a number of years. The Memphis Dental Society awarded him the Outstanding Young Dentist Award for 1999-2000. The Tennessee Dental Association also gave him the Fellowship Award for Distinguished Service.

Furthermore, Dr. Scott also holds memberships in the American Dental Association® and American Association of Orthodontists and is also a fellow with the American College of Dentists. Dr. Scott Werner is a board-certified orthodontist. In previous years, Dr. Scott Werner was president of the Memphis Association of Orthodontists, Tennessee Association of Orthodontists and the Memphis Dental Society. He has also served as a delegate to the Tennessee Dental Association. Along with his father, Dr. Stanley Werner, he has been voted one of Memphis’s “Top Dentists” every year since 2008.

Dr. Scott and his family are members of St. Louis Catholic Church, where he has been involved with the youth group as an advisor and served as a member of the Pastoral Council. He has also coached soccer, T-ball, basketball and golf. In his spare time, Dr. Scott enjoys being with his family, golfing, hunting, boating and following the Memphis Tigers!

Dr. Stan Werner has studied with many of the most influential orthodontists of our time including Dr. Charlie Tweed, Dr. Ron Roth, Dr. Larry Andrews, Dr. Robert Ricketts and Dr. Charles Stuart. Over the years, Dr. Werner has mentored several of his patients who have gone on to become dentists and orthodontists. Along with his son, Dr. Scott Werner, he has been voted one of Memphis’s “Top Dentists” every year since 2008.

Dr. Stanley Werner holds memberships in the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists and the Memphis Dental Society. In addition, he is a member and past president of the Tennessee Association of Orthodontists, is a founding member and past president of the Memphis Association of Orthodontists and is also a past president and member of the University of Tennessee Orthodontic Alumni Association. He is also a fellow of the American College of Dentists and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

In dental school, Dr. Stanley Werner graduated first in his class, received the Richard Dogget Dean Scholarship Award and the International College of Dentists Award for Academic Excellence and was also president of his dental class.

After graduating from dental school in September 1965, Dr. Werner was an instructor in the operative dentistry department at the University of Tennessee. After graduating from the orthodontic program in May 1968, Dr. Werner was associate professor in the orthodontic department for several years. Furthermore, he continues to have a strong commitment to the orthodontic department at the University of Tennessee and has supported it since graduating in 1968.

Dr. Stanley Werner is known as a workaholic and is generally at the office always doing something. He loves his profession and enjoys his work and his relationships with his patients — many of whom are 3rd generation patients. He is a member of Faith Lutheran Church which he strongly supports and has served as an elder. In his time off, he enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He also spends a lot of time on his tractor and working on his farm.
